An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction. In the event that this happens, your transaction may be denied or returned. However, here at Horizon we believe every member deserves some consideration rather than automatically returning insufficient funds. This is why we offer members Overdraft Privilege and other overdraft protection plans.
Start protecting yourself today by opting in online.
Here's how it works:
We will automatically authorize and pay overdraft items for the following types of transactions:
- Automatic Payments
- Other Transactions Using Check Number
We understand that nobody’s perfect. If you ever find yourself in a bind, we want to give you every opportunity to avoid high merchant penalties for unavailable funds. You deserve consideration, and that’s what overdraft privilege provides.
Overdraft privilege is already part of your deposit account agreement with us. With some exceptions, most of our checking/draft account types and individual accounts are eligible for this service. See “Ineligible Accounts”, “Eligible Account Types” and “Eligible Transaction Types” in the Overdraft Privilege Service Policy.
If you do not use the ODP service, it costs you nothing. “Use” means you initiate insufficient funds transactions. If you do use the ODP service, you will be charged a flat fee of $29 per overdraft or insufficient funds item. Check out the full Overdraft Privilege Service Policy for details.
Other overdraft protection plans:
With an overdraft protection plan you can link your checking account to a share account, Horizon Visa, or line of credit. In the event that your checking account goes below a zero balance, money will be transferred from your share account, Horizon Visa, or line of credit to cover the insufficient funds in exchange for a small fee:
- From Overdraft Shares - $1.50/occurence
- From Other Share Account - $3.00/occurence
- From Line of Credit - $3.00/occurence
- From Visa Card - $3.00 or 3% of transfer (whichever is greater)/occurence
